Live Staking Demonstration

Creeks need trees and shrubs along their banks to hold the soil and to provide habitat for birds and other critters. Live stakes are dormant, live cuttings from woody shrubs or trees that are driven directly into the stream bank (no digging required!) to root, grow, and stabilize banks. Live staking is an easy and inexpensive way to restore creek banks. The base section will root and the upper section will leaf out to become a tree or shrub.

You may get muddy, so please wear boots or even waders. We provide the cuttings, gloves and tools. Please bring your own water bottle.

Please note this event is open to Master Watershed Stewards and current Master Watershed Steward Trainees.
